We had a chunk of cold weather hit us as people were leaving town Thanksgiving morning. Knowing we were expecting 20 degree weather, I was draining the water lines to the water features so the valves wouldn't freeze. I was in a long-sleeved lightweight cotton shirt and wishing I had not worn sleeves. Within 15 minutes the temperature dropped almost 10 degrees and by the time I was ready to head down the hill the wind was blowing and the balmy 68 degrees had become a brisk, breezy 54 degrees. I stopped on the maintenance track between the Shinnery Stroll tank and City Hill Road and took this picture of some fall color and the snapping flag.
Somebody who lives near the Inspiration Point water feature is preparing for winter:
I would like it to be the porcupine who hangs out around the tank because I think that would be way more interesting than a rock squirrel, and of less concern than a skunk. (I know, I know, but really, it's easier to avoid a quill disaster than it is to avoid a stinky spray disaster. I think.) These holes are very close to the bench that sits at right angles to the tank.
I have not seen anybody's tracks and there have been no broken quills, which I usually see when the porcupine has been around.
