Finally, we have a camera! We replaced our broken Canon Powershot with a later model of the same. Some features and settings are a bit different and I will need to practice. Day before yesterday we had a visitor from Kerrville, a woman who used to live in Sonora. She is a fine photographer so we took a camera practice hike. Walking up to the flag we saw something disappear behind a rock. Assuming it was a rock squirrel (this year has been an excellent year for rock squirrels; they have been everywhere) we were surprised to see a Rock wren's head pop out of a crack in the rock. I'm pretty happy with the picture:
I was also happy to see a Rock wren, as the last one I saw was last fall in a giant patch of Prickly pear cactus along Chicken Coop Loop, way on the other side of the Hill. The books show them in this area year-round so we'll keep watching.
